"Before You Say
Yes ..." The volunteer's bible to volunteer boards.
Doreen's rung her magic bell over the city that
comprises volunteerism. Well, that's how I saw
Doreen's book "Before You Say Yes ... " And last
night? Wow, what a night.
About 70 or
more of us had the waiters and kitchen staff 'on
the hop' in the Prairie Ink Dining Room at
McNally Robinson Booksellers.
Doreen's
presentation was a salute to happy! She took us
through the chapters of her book like we were
rocketing along a downhill skiing slalom course,
sweeping up, and introducing those in the crowd whom
she had interviewed to get insightful information
like she was gathering a bouquet of slalom 'gates.'
There were charges of applause thrown up in waves
throughout her opening address.

Doreen speak at any time but she was at her best
last night. Too quickly, she closed her address,
thanked us for attending and took the author's place
at a table and signed every "Before You Say Yes ...
" that McNally had on the shelves. As the stock
swirled like water swirling into a drain, McNally's
manager's smile got thinner and thinner as the
frightening realization that he hadn't ordered
enough of the tomes to satisfy the crowd's need. And
every reader got a personal note from Doreen in the
inside front cover to take and treasure.
